Academic Skills
I left school having put a great amount of focus on my grades in order to get into a law course. Studying law for the last two years has been extremely challenging academically but has pushed me to widen my mind and learn more independently whilst studying areas that I find challenging.

Wider Skills
I lived and worked as an au pair in Spain after deferring my place at university for a year. This was amazing for my personal development and really helped me become more independent and confident.

Whilst I was in school I volunteered as a coach for Tryst Community Sports Club, this also developed my confidence, problem solving and teamwork. I am now employed part-time by Tryst and have brought my own experience from coaching to this role whilst also growing as a staff member.

I have also had my job as a lifeguard from the age of 16. Gaining experience interacting with the public and gaining experience in high pressure situations has really helped me grow as a person.

What advice would you give your younger self?
I would advise my younger self that the route you have planned and you think you will take might not always be possible - and to just enjoy the alternative. I would also say that you should never underestimate how the things you are doing outside of academia are helping you in the long run. Grades may be important to what you want to do in the future but they are not the be all and end all.
