Modern Apprenticeships

Modern Apprenticeships help employers to develop their workforce by training new staff, and upskilling existing employees. For individuals, an MA is a job which lets them earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification.

Each year, over 25,000 people start a Modern Apprenticeship - combining a qualification with on-the-job experience. This lets people work, learn and earn at the same time. We contribute towards the costs of their training, through a training provider who works with the business.

There are over 80 Modern Apprenticeship frameworks - from healthcare and financial services to construction and IT. These have been developed by sector skills councils, in consultation with their industry.

This means that MAs can build valuable work experience from day one and gain an accredited qualification which is recognised by industry. They'll develop skills and expertise for their current and future jobs. Modern Apprenticeships are available at four different levels, some equivalent to a degree.

To learn more about Modern Apprenticeships, visit our Careers Advisor, Katrina Wilson in room C025 or the "Careers Drop In" session in the library Tuesday lunchtime.

Apprenticeship Programmes at GTG Training

The programmes offer individuals the chance to gain skills and qualifications in various different occupations. From motor vehicle technicians and vehicle refinishers to business administrators and customer services, there is a huge number of career paths to choose from. An apprenticeship will usually take anything from 12 to 36 months to complete, with apprentices achieving an S/NVQ level 3 qualification from SQA or I.M.I.

How Do I Apply
Once you have had a look through the programmes available and chosen one that is suitable for you. Your application reviewed by a member of our recruitment team to ensure your qualifications meet our entry requirements. If your initial enquiry is successful you will then be invited to attend a session with GTG which includes:
Basic numeracy test
Basic literacy test
Mechanical aptitude test (only for technical apprenticeships)
These tests are all paper based and are conducted under test conditions, with timescales set. If you successfully pass the tests you will be selected for a formal interview with a member of the GTG Recruitment team.
Based on successful completion of the above you will then be referred to our bank of employers who are interested in recruiting an apprentice. This referral will be sent to employers who are within reasonable travelling distance to your home address. If selected, the employer will also conduct a formal interview with you.
